Orlando, Florida, several hours later.

Melvin Perez stood roughly eight blocks away from the Eisner Center. He was directly in the trajectory of the renegade Milo Mouse – whom the fast-moving online press had already dubbed “Mechani-Mouse.” He looked down at the sapphire-like jewel hanging on a silvery chain from his neck for reassurance. He then poked his right ear a few times, to make certain the long-range communications earbud given him by Gil was in working order.

“Can you hear me, man?” Melvin said aloud, trying to speak over the screams of numerous people and the frequent honking of horns as civilians fled the area on foot or in vehicles.

“Loud and clear, brah,” Gil’s voice crackled into his friend’s auditory canal. “These earbud thingies that Eisner gave us are top notch!”

Melvin stepped aside and cursed as a large man fleeing the scene on foot almost knocked him down. Lucky for that ignorant hombre that I’m on a schedule here.

“Are you sure those Eisner suits agreed to your 40 mil request? I mean, that sounds a bit steep even for rich mo’ fo’s like them.”

“They totally agreed! That’s actually lots less than the lawsuits and lost revenue from their theme park, not to mention the beating they would take in the stock market, if that robo-mouse of theirs thrashes all of Orlando and wipes out thousands of folks along with the architecture.”

“Okay, alright! Anyway, what makes you so certain this little device will grow with me when I become Blue King? I mean, when I transform my clothing gets replaced, my cellphone and bling vanishes, and only this jewel grows big along with me.”

“Just trust me on this one, okay? You said the gods made that jewelry of yours, si? Well, if they’re powerful enough to make something that can create giant people and axes and shit, they gotta be able to make little devices grow too, especially when you totally need them. I just got a feelin’ about this. Trust the brains of our little team here, okay?”

The brains? More like the ass of the team.

“Okay, okay! Just keep in mind that I can’t talk back to you when I become Blue King. For some reason I’m mute when I change into the big super-guy. But you said the last time you could ‘hear’ me scream in pain in your head? Like, with psychic waves of some sort? I’ll try to communicate with you that way, but don’t’ be surprised if it doesn’t work.”

“Word! As long as you can still hear me through that earbud, which I’m confident will grow real big along with you, then you can receive my on-the-spot advice. I’m watching everything from about half a mile away from our room on the Hyatt Regency’s 20 th floor. I can’t see you as a regular guy with these new military-grade binocs, but once you get big –”

“Yeah, yeah, I know. Okay, I have to pay attention now, ‘cause that giant robot should be here any…”
